A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA…PARTS OF MARYLAND…AND FAIRFAX COUNTY VIRGINIA.

SNOW FROM A PERSISTENT SNOW BAND IS SLOWLY WEAKENING AND PUSHING NORTHEAST OUT OF THE AREA. UP TO ONE INCH OF SNOWFALL IS POSSIBLE THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL ALLOW STORM TOTALS TO AVERAGE 6 TO 9 INCHES ACROSS THE BALTIMORE AND WASHINGTON METRO AREAS…WITH TOTALS OF UP TO 11 INCHES ACROSS LOWER MARYLAND.

GUSTY WINDS WILL ALSO CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. WIND GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH WILL LEAD TO BLOWING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

The Winter Storm Warning for portions of Maryland… the District of Columbia… and Fairfax County Virginia… will expire at 2 PM EST this afternoon.

Along some light snow showers persist over eastern portions of Maryland… little additional accumulation is expected. This activity will exit the area in next several hours. Roadways may still be slick and hazardous… and gusty winds are producing some areas of visibility restricting blowing snow.
